Stayed at Byrd’s Adventure Center for the night. Primitive camping was $12, which got us internet and a bathroom. They also have an airstrip, so it was cool seeing planes come in.
We drove down to Redding Recreation Area to check out the swimming hole. It looked really good, but we didn’t end up getting in.
I slept better than I have the entire trip. Had coffee with Jason in the morning and sat around talking for a while, then went over for biscuits and gravy, which was really, really good.
Instead of just taking the highway, we headed up Beach Grove Road toward St. Paul. It turned out to be rougher than expected, especially since I’d already aired my tires back up.
At one point there was an easy route and a hard route. Jason took the hard one. I took the easy one. I think we were both pretty happy with our decisions.
We made it through St. Paul and up to Huntsville, washed the trucks, and that was where Jason and I split up.
So that was the end of the High Water Mark part of the trip — and it was a freaking good time. We should be doing this shit more often. We’re already talking about what mods the trucks need, where else we could go, and even coming back to run the High Water Mark again.
I’d say that means the trip was a success.
